Case Study: Lighting Up the Apple Ecosystem for Lumina

Client Overview
Lumina manufactures high-end smart bulbs and ambient lighting systems. While their hardware was world-class, their companion app was holding them back. It was slow, frequently disconnected from devices, and frustrated users who expected a premium experience.

The Challenge
Lumina’s previous app was built on a clunky cross-platform framework. iOS users specifically faced three deal-breaking issues:

  1. Bluetooth Latency: Tapping "Light On" took 3–5 seconds to react, killing the magic of smart lighting.
  1. Connectivity Drops: The app struggled to maintain connections with multiple bulbs simultaneously.
  1. Missing Apple Features: Users wanted to use Siri or Home Screen widgets, but the old app didn't support them.

The Solution
Paraakhya recommended a Native iOS Strategy. We scrapped the hybrid code and rebuilt the app from the ground up using Apple’s native language, Swift, to unlock full hardware performance.

1. Native CoreBluetooth Architecture
We bypassed standard libraries and wrote a custom communication layer using Apple’s CoreBluetooth framework.

  • The Result: We reduced command latency from 4 seconds to 200 milliseconds. Lights now react instantly to a tap.

2. Modern UI with SwiftUI
We used SwiftUI to create a buttery-smooth, gesture-based interface. We implemented haptic feedback (vibrations) so users can "feel" the dial turning when they adjust brightness, creating a tactile digital experience.

3. Deep Ecosystem Integration (Siri & Widgets)
An iOS app should feel like part of the iPhone.

  • Siri Shortcuts: We integrated SiriKit, allowing users to say "Hey Siri, set Movie Mode" without even opening the app.
  • Interactive Widgets: We built Home Screen widgets so users can toggle their favorite scenes directly from their wallpaper.

The Results
  • App Store Rating: Jumped from 2.5 stars to 4.9 stars within 2 months of the relaunch.
  • 95% Faster Pairing: The new setup process detects and pairs bulbs in under 5 seconds (previously 45+ seconds).
  • User Retention: Daily active users increased by 60% because the app was finally a joy to use.

Tech Stack
  • Language: Swift 5.
  • UI Framework: SwiftUI & UIKit.
  • Connectivity: CoreBluetooth & IoT Protocols (MQTT).
  • Database: CoreData (for offline scene storage).
  • Voice: SiriKit.

"Paraakhya understands the Apple user. They didn't just build an app that functions; they built an app that feels premium. The Siri integration alone has been a huge selling point for our marketing."
